Experienced Mobile Alpaca Table Shearing Service

Keenan is available to offer his alpaca and Llama shearing services mobile around the North Island. Bookings are taken all year round and especially if you require certain dates at the height of the season, book as soon as you know so we can try and accomodate. The Season generally runs from October through to the end of March.

 A specially designed alpaca shearing table is used to minimise stress for the animals and handlers.
We all know shearing is the most stressful day for any alpaca so we make sure every animal is handled with the utmost care, having over 500 of our own Alpaca this is second nature to us. Having been a Qualified NZ Judge Keenan can give Fleece appraisal as the shearing is carried out to assist you in your breeding and / or guide you to best use of the fleece.

 The padded crush on the alpaca shearing table is safer to use for heavily pregnant females than most other shearing methods. The table has no Belly strap like some shearing tables and does not put the Alpaca's lower back potentially under undue pressure by being shorn on the ground. All parts of the alpaca are shorn including the lower legs, tail and head to get a lovely clean appearance everytime (unless otherwise instructed). We take pride in our shearing job. Also happy to shear young cria to remove the sticky tipping which collects vegetable matter and often makes the first fleece unuseable.

NB// By shearing the lower legs there is less likelyhood of skin problems in these areas as often found by leaving lower leg fleece intact.

Charges are per Head (Adults) and the larger the group the cheaper the shearing.

Cost for 5 or less alpacas is $50 per head, although if you only have two alpacas please add $45 for setup.

6-7 alpacas is $45 per head. 

8-11 alpacas is $35 per head.

Over 12 Alpaca $25 per Head.

All prices are plus GST, No travel is charged unless the shearing is remote or not in conjunction with other work in the area. 

*Alpacas with more than one years fleece will incurr extra charges to to the extra care needed to shear these alpacas.*Please note the Camelid code of conduct states that alpacas must be shorn regularly. Please do not submit your alpacas to the chance of heat stress and potential skin issues by not shearing them annually.

Toe-nail trimming and Free Health check included. 

Teeth Trimming  and fashioning is an additional cost as is 5-in-1, AD&E and Drench extra.
